Friends for Youth (FFY) was formed in 1998 after founders of Colorado Volunteers in Juvenile & Criminal Justice (CVJCV) had worked for eight years mentoring adults who were incarcerated under its Friends in Transition program.

Encouraged by the far lower recidivism rate (20% compared to 80%) among adults mentored under Friends in Transition compared to the general prison population, our founders believed that earlier intervention for at-risk youth could divert them from involvement in the juvenile and adult justice system.
